Announcing Whitewater: A Thriller

Navy SEAL, Seductive FBI Agent, and Band of River Guides Battle Drug Cartel to Survive Kern River Rapids

William McGinnis’ murder mystery transforms how people experience rivers and nature

Whitewater: A Thriller, by author and rafting outfitter William McGinnis, offers readers fast-paced exhilaration amid whitewater rapids, high Sierra cliffs, gambling casinos, giant sequoias, and drug cartels. This thrilling page turner also provides a powerful, almost tactile experience of the magic and beauty of rivers and is a celebration of nature and life itself.

“WOW!! DOUBLE WOW!!!!! An amazing thriller! I couldn’t put it down. ... This book is exciting and enthralling.“ —Bud Robyn, River rafter, mountain climber, sailor, aerobatic pilot, skydiver, kite surfer and international business executive

“A fun, creative ... energetic, real-world tale. ... In McGinnis’ first foray into fiction, a series of near-fatal attractions conspire to turn one man’s quest to gain peace and self-knowledge into a contest for his own survival. … (McGinnis’) prose oscillates between quick-moving action sequences and lyrical descriptions of the mountainous Southern California setting. ... The story incorporates humor, pathos and even geography into its arc, resulting in a fun, creative take on the temperamental, erratic and bloody drug trade that exists in the United States... A novel oriented toward both readers of crime fiction and nature writing.” –Kirkus Review

Suggestions for Interview Questions and Articles:

–The Creative Flow: Reflections on tapping into the creative well spring within us all. Time + Attention + X = Creative Flow

–The New Publishing Paradigm: After first successfully publishing with a huge traditional publisher, McGinnis is now embracing the new indie and Amazon book distribution model with even greater success! The image, the economics, the pros and cons of recent developments in the publishing industry.

–Nature Deficit Disorder: Isolation from the natural world is taking a serious toll on our society. Studies have shown that 20-minute walks in nature can be more effective than medication in treating ADHD in children.

–Cartel Pot Farms on Public Lands: Marijuana plantations defended by deadly booby traps and armed guards are a serious problem throughout our national forests and parks. Drug cartels have been known to kill rather than pay their campesino farmers. Cartel distribution of crystal methamphetamine, which has been described as the world’s most dangerous drug, is an especially grievous real life nightmare.

–River Recreation: Its explosive growth, where to do it, how to do it safely. With five books on rafting and a lifetime of leading trips in California and all over the world, William McGinnis is a recognized river recreation and whitewater rafting authority.

–Spiritual Wisdom/Emotional Intelligence: The spiritual wisdom and interconnected world view implicit in the novel. Holistic insights into kindness, emotional wellness, heightened awareness, presence, and healing man–s relationship with nature. Embracing the opportunities as well as the responsibilities. The path ahead.

–Kern River Valley and Sequoia National Forest: The Lower, Upper and the Forks of the Kern, Lake Isabella and its surrounding towns, the giant sequoias, the Audubon Kern River Preserve: the book provides a grand tour of this Southern California recreation wonderland.

-Eco Lit:  Whitewater: A Thriller melds genres by combining fast-paced crime fiction with lyrical writing.

–The Dream Van and Four-Wheeling: The actual four-wheel-drive, pop-top Sportsmobile van that inspired the Dream Van in the novel is a fascinating subject in itself and is available for inspection and display.
