Whitewater Rafting Guides

We are always interested in hiring friendly, courteous, professional guides. Our criteria for selecting guides is based as much on personality, amiability, and people skills, as it is on river skills. We hire people who love people, and who love to share. Our motto is "Adventure, Friendship, Growth" and that is what we encourage in our guides, in our trips, and in all dealings with our clients, fellow guides, and office staff.

Presently, we are only accepting guides with a minimum two years of Class IV or better experience.

Guiding with Whitewater VoyagesIf you are interested in guiding for us, but have little or no experience, our Whitewater Guide School is the perfect way to learn about our rafting family. You will surely have life changing experiences, learn river guiding, and be able to apply our philosophy of guiding and conducting river trips to other areas of your life. After guide school, you may then be asked to come back and continue to train. If the training goes well, you may be offered a position.

"Weekend Warrior" guides are always needed. We are significantly busier on weekends, and guides who are available to work trips on weekends are in demand. After attending the Whitewater Guide School and some additional training, a weekend guiding position is the perfect way to get out into nature, to share your love of the outdoors, and to get some great whitewater experience.

It should be reassuring to know that, due to the excellent reputation of our schools, the vast majority of our graduates who want to guide have been able to find guiding positions either with Whitewater Voyages or other outfitters. We are also proud of the fact that outfitters all over the world send people to us for training – we welcome one and all!

All guides new to Whitewater Voyages and to the rivers we run are expected to go through a training period with senior guides acting as mentors and evaluators. When the area managers and senior guides feel you truly represent Whitewater Voyages' goals and philosophies, and are technically skilled enough for a particular stretch of river, you'll be able to start working. The time it takes to train varies greatly among individuals.

Work is available from mid-March through the end of the season, depending on snowpack, bookings, and other variables. Current first aid and CPR certification is required. Swiftwater Rescue, EMT, and Wilderness First Responder certification is a plus. Guides are required to train on each of the rivers on which they want to work. Guides are generally able to train and work from all our different areas, depending on the schedule and their abilities. However, those who commit to a single area for an entire season are given priority in work scheduling.

" I had my first experience rafting this weekend on the Yuba with a big group of friends. I was a little apprehensive but or fearless leader... Roland was awesome. His confidence, experience and great personality led to a wonderful experience. Thanks Roland, Glen and Wendy for a great trip. Have a great summer... I will try to learn my right from left. "

" We just did the Lower Kern last weekend with Heather as our fearless (and often flirted with) guide. It was endless fun, from the beautiful scenery, exciting rapids, the gazillions of stars out at night, to all the joking and water fights on the boats. Thank you Whitewater Voyages for a weekend well spent. We'll be back to do the Upper Kern soon! "
- Susan LeNoir

" The two-day Kings River trip was INCREDIBLE! The guides (Jenni, Abby, Neil, Eric and the entire crew) were fantastic. I cannot say enough about their skills, their cooking abilities, and their great personalities! Any future whitewater trip will be with you guys! Why go with anyone else? I've always had a great time with your outfit... Top notch! Keep it up! "
